Education Programs
The activities associated with the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame can be used to exemplify students’ achievements and create your very own class Hall of Fame. The activities encourage students to research and review the displays in the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame to determine the criteria that would be ideal for induction into a Hall of Fame.
Teachers and Guides can choose the length, activities and structure or their class visit. Listed below are some examples of effective programs that have been delivered in the past:
Length
1 or 2 hour visits
½ day visits
Full day visits
Activities
Bobby Orr Hall of Fame Tour (30 minutes – all grades) – Guided by a staff member, the teacher and students will be toured through the entire Bobby Orr Hall of Fame and educated on the key aspects of Bobby Orr’s hockey career, while speaking to the importance of teamwork, fair play, personal achievement, and other virtues associated with the hockey star’s success.
Slide Show Presentation (15 minutes – all grades) – An interactive method of showcasing the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame and the athlete’s career
Scavenger Hunt / Quiz (30 minutes – primary grades) – Students are given free range of the facility to discover the answers to all questions incorporated in the quiz. This can be done individually or in teams.
Virtues Activity (30 minutes minimum – intermediate grades) – Students are given a work sheet and examine the display cases in the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame to learn about Bobby Orr and indicate which virtues apply to the athlete. This activity can be taken an additional step to discuss virtues of athletes and teammates in general.
Creating a “Virtues Shield” (30 minutes – intermediate grades) – incorporated with the Virtues Activity, and done in teams. Students determine which virtues are key to being part of a Hall of Fame and create a shield which outlines each virtue. The successful shield can become the logo for their class Hall of Fame.
Free Play (timing at teacher’s discretion – all grades) – students are given time to experience a number of the interactive games on the second floor of the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame. Organizing the students into teams helps to practice team work skills.
Structure
