The Order of Canada
The
Order of Canada is the highest distinction that can be awarded to a Canadian
Citizen. A person can be made an Officer of the Order of Canada for outstanding
merit or distinguished service in a given field through lifelong contributions
that have made a difference to Canada.
For
his merits as a hockey player, both on and off the ice, Bobby Orr was no
exception! On June 25th, 1979, then Governor General Ed Schreyer, on
behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, honoured Bobby Orr with
welcoming him as an Officer to the Order of Canada for representing an
outstanding level of talent and service to Canada.
This
is a photo of the medal presented to Bobby Orr by the Governor General on
behalf of the Queen. This medal, as well as an official montage presented at
the time of his appointment, is on display in the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame. Stop
